SUMMARY:Small Grain Markets Workshop: Economic Opportunity in a New Market Enviornment
DESCRIPTION:Albert Lea Seed is a proud sponsor of this event! There is no charge to attend\, so register today. \nOnce common on farms across the Corn Belt\, the acres planted in small grains has fallen sharply – and with it\, the infrastructure and markets farmers once relied on – making it hard for even the most forward-thinking farmer to incorporate small grains as an enterprise. However\, it still stands that adding small grains to a crop rotation is an effective way to biologically control weeds\, grow a quality cover crop that can offset feed or fertilizer costs\, and spread labor throughout the year.  With a growing consumer trend toward healthy\, sustainable foods\, raising small grains can be a prime opportunity to build a resilient\, locally driven supply chain for an in-demand product.  From the visionary work of a fourth-generation farmer and scientist\, Bob Quinn (Kamut International)\, to practical\, farmer-innovators like Roy Pfaltzgraff (Pfz Farms) and Landon & Anne Plagge (Green Acres Milling)\, Land Stewardship Project is hosting a Small Grain Markets Workshop to give producers confidence and practical know-how into raising and selling other crops.
