SilageMaster Flex BMR Corn (Cruiser Treated)

105-Day CRM

Product Overview

  • Silage-only BMR hybrid with top-tier digestibility and excellent tonnage
  • Excellent yield and agronomics/standability for a BMR
  • Grows high-quality tillers at the base that increase dry matter yield
  • Does benefit from fungicide application
  • Plant at 26k-30k
  • Can be mowed and baled/chopped at 60 days or at full tassel for a more flexible forage option (yields ranging from 5-8 tons dry matter at that point)
  • Can also be grazed or harvested at full tassel and will regrow around 30% of first pass yield if 4-8 inches remain (typical 60-day harvest yields are 5-8 tons of high-quality dry matter)
  • Cruiser-treated (Looking for untreated? Click here)

Product Details

What is SilageMaster Flex BMR Corn?

This hybrid, at its heart, is a 105-day BMR silage corn hybrid containing the BM-3 BMR gene Studies have shown the BM-3 gene confers higher fiber digestibility (NDFD) than other BMR varieties.

What Makes It Unique?

In a word, flexibility. This hybrid can be managed multiple ways to produce high-tonnage, high-quality grazing or stored forage, depending on your needs and what weather and challenges the season brings.

Why Should I Consider It?

As external forces around farming become less and less predictable (weather patterns, markets, pest/disease pressure, etc…) it will be important to build flexibility into our farming systems to maintain resilience. This corn is a tool that provides that flexibility while maintaining superior quality in your forage production system.

This hybrid tillers profusely at its base. That may sound more weird than special, but it allows it to be used flexibly in a forage production system because it can be grazed, baled, or chopped at full tassel (~60 days). The result is 5-8 dry matter tons of premium grade, high-energy feed with excellent fiber digestibility and high NDFD-30 and TTNDFD ratings. Its top-of-the-line fiber digestibility and sugar content make it ideal for grass-fed production if harvested at full tassel.

This means if you want to double-crop with a small grain, forage crop, or cover crop or if you just can’t get your silage corn in the ground on time, you can still get the forage you need with the superior quality of the BM-3 gene. If enough residual stalk (6-8 inches) is left after the first cut this corn can regrow roughly 30% of the original yield on a second cut.

Additionally, you can manage it as a full-season BMR Silage corn by planting it early in spring, harvesting full-season silage with confidence in a high yielding, agronomically sound 105-day BMR corn.

Management Tips

Management Tips for grazing or harvest at 60 days (full tassel)

  • When planted for grazing or harvest at tassel (~60days) plant around 32k seeds/acre
  • If planting for grazing or harvest at full tassel, use a half-rate of N (roughly 80-120 units available)
  • For grazing or harvest at full tassel it can be planted with a corn planter, or drilled as narrow as 7 inches (as long as your drill doesn’t crack the seed)
  • Mow/Graze at 6-8 inches to ensure regrowth if a second cut is desired
  • Can be planted as early as you would normally plant corn, or anytime up until the cut-off planting date for sorghum-sudan
  • No prussic acid concerns (unlike sorghum & sudan products)

Management Tips when planting for full-season silage corn

  • When planted for full- season silage plant at 26k-30k seeds/acre
  • If planting for full-season silage corn, apply full rate of N (for silage corn)
  • Can be planted as early as you would normally plant corn
  • Plan to apply fungicide if using for full season silage corn, as this BMR Hybrid is susceptible to fungal diseases
  • No prussic acid concerns (unlike sorghum & sudan products)

Albert Lea Seed is 100% focused on giving you the best non-GMO corn available, and our Viking brand offers the leading non-GMO seed corn lineup in the Midwest. It is screened, trialed, tested, and holds yields with and often beats the best traited corn out there, including those from multinational companies. We source our germplasm from large and small breeding programs and run our own replicated testing program to compare all these hybrids. Sure, we are looking for the highest yield, but we are also screening hybrids for stalk and root strength, disease resistance, drought tolerance, and population tolerance. You deserve the best, so plant Viking seed corn. All of these hybrids are treated with CruiserMaxx. For Viking non-GMO corn that's suitable for organic farms, check out our lineup of RiseUp (organic-compliant) coated non-GMO seed corn.
